About Me

Hi, I’m Ruki Panjwani (she/her), a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate and the founder of Amala Counseling, practicing under the supervision of Toni La’Zurs, LPC-S. I work with individuals, couples, and families—both virtually and in person—through my practice based in Houston, TX.

I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northwestern University, a CACREP-accredited program with a strong psychodynamic focus. This approach invites clients to explore the deeper roots of their emotional and relational struggles—not just surface-level behaviors or quick fixes. As I often share with clients, psychodynamic therapy doesn’t just ask “what happened to you?”—it also asks “what world did you grow up in?” Culture isn’t just a backdrop—it shapes our worldview, attachment styles, relational patterns, and emotional responses. This deeper work fosters meaningful insight, emotional relief, and long-term change.

You won’t find one-size-fits-all strategies here. My work is integrative and goes beyond symptom management. I help clients uncover how past experiences, cultural narratives, and relationship dynamics have shaped the way they think, feel, and relate. We focus on the “why” behind the “what”—so you can break free from patterns that no longer serve you and build a more aligned and empowered version of yourself.

In addition to being a Certified Trauma Practitioner (CTP), a neurodivergent specialist, and a Level Two PET-C (Pragmatic Experiential Therapy for Couples) practitioner, I’m also trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS) and certified as a Martha Beck Life Coach.

As a South Asian American and second-generation immigrant, I understand the complex experience of navigating multiple cultural identities. My lived experience allows me to approach therapy with a deep appreciation for intersectionality and the unique challenges that come with balancing heritage, identity, and belonging.

My therapeutic approach is eclectic and attuned to your specific needs. Whether you’re seeking clarity in relationships, relief from anxiety, or reconnection with yourself, our work together will be grounded in compassion, cultural awareness, and lasting transformation.
