Data Modelling For Software Engineers (Devoxx GR 2025).pdfScott Sosna
Really, data modeling? Is that even a thing any more?
The days of formal data modeling are definitely years in the rearview mirror, empowered teams define their data as they see fit, implement, and move on. Done. And we'll deal with short-comings down the road when they arise, that's Agile, let's keep moving forward (to data architects' frustration when trying to make sense of it all after the fact).
But "modeling data" extends beyond what is persisted in a database server: API Payloads, messages, configuration files, document metadata, Redis indexes are forms of data we define and work with regularly.
If I've got your attention, join me to discuss data modeling, this time from a software engineering perspective!
Workshop: No (Lab) Jacket Required: Designing Experiments for Learning by Mat...Agile ME
Hypothesis-Driven Development is thinking about the development of new ideas, products, and services – even organizational change – as a series of experiments to determine whether an expected outcome will be achieved, so we need to know how to design and run experiments properly.
This session helps participants understand the importance of using experiments to help teams and organizations learn and improve while giving hands-on practice in designing experiments to yield measurable evidence for that learning. We’ll even play a couple of inductive-logic games to get us in the mindset of how to write tests to validate — and invalidate — our hypotheses to acquire knowledge.
Whether you’re in product development or organizational improvement, for those wanting to move from projects to experiments in the quest of continuous learning and evolutionary improvement, this session will provide the tools and mindset for going beyond simply calling something an experiment to conduct experiments with the proper rigor to maximize learning.
This session helps participants:
• understand the importance of using experiments to help teams and organizations learn and improve
• gain hands-on practice in designing experiments to yield measurable evidence for that learning
• understand how to properly measure outcomes without confirmation bias
People Over Process: Unlocking Agile Success Through Culture and Well-being b...Agile ME

Cotton contributes significantly to the production of oilseeds and textile fiber globally, and it is an important component of the socioeconomic and political environment. This study aims to evaluate the effects of commercial sulfuric acid and nitrogen, irrigation intervals, phosphatic fertilizer application, and chiseling on cotton growth and yield. The investigation was carried out using a split-plot setup with three replications at the Central Cotton Research Institute (CCRI), Multan, Pakistan. Nitrogen levels (N1 = 50 kg ha-1, N2 = 100 kg ha-1, N3 =150 kg ha-1) were kept in main plots, while sulphuric acid (S1= 0 kg ha-1, S2= 125 kg ha-1, S3 = 250 kg ha-1 and S4 = 375 kg ha-1) was randomized in sub plots respectively. The results showed that watering interval and chiseling had a substantial impact on plant height and the quantity of fruiting parts per plant. Compared to other treatments, interculturing produced higher plant height and more fruiting parts when paired with chiseling and an 8-day irrigation interval. The height and fruiting sections of cotton plants showed a positive link with the long-term effects of phosphatic fertilizer application in wheat crop. The impact of several phosphorus delivery techniques on plant height and fruiting parts varied in bed-furrow planting; hand application without mixing prior to sowing yielded the best results. The application of commercial sulfuric acid, in conjunction with nitrogen, positively affected both plant height and fruiting parts. Increased fruiting parts and plant height were a result of higher sulfuric acid dosages; nitrogen application had no visible impact. These findings can contribute to the development of effective strategies for cotton cultivation, leading to increased productivity and profitability for cotton farmers.
Cotton holds a significant role in various aspects of daily life, impacting human existence from infancy to the end of life. Its influence is universal reaching into socio-economic and political affairs on a global scale (Kairon et al., 2004). The cultivation, processing, and trade of cotton not only serve as sources of substantial revenue but also form the backbone of livelihoods in numerous countries. As the leading natural textile fiber worldwide, cotton also ranks as the fourth largest oilseeds crop, addressing 40 % of the global textile demand and contributing 3.3 % to the overall production of edible oil (Ali et al., 2012; Zia et al., 2015; Shuli et al., 2018). Pakistan stands prominently as the fourth largest contributor to global cotton production, emphasizing its crucial role in the cotton industry (Zia et al., 2018a, 2018b). Additionally, it holds the third position in consumption and distinguishes itself as a leading exporter of yarn (International Cotton Advisory Committee [ICAC], 2012).

Unlocking advanced keyword analysis with machine learning and NLP for SEOsSante J. Achille
Google Search Console is a treasure trove of data that many SEOs underutilise. While paid keyword
research tools have their place, GSC provides the most accurate representation of how users find your
website through organic search. This guide demonstrates how to leverage this often-neglected data using
machine learning and natural language processing techniques to:
• Automatically analyse thousands of search terms.
• Segment them into primary topics and more granular "nuanced topics”.
• Categorise terms in a way that reveals user intent.
• Create actionable editorial guidelines for content creation.
This approach allows for a more sophisticated understanding of your audience's search behaviour,
enabling you to develop highly targeted content strategies based on actual user data rather than third-party
estimates.
Why This Matters for SEOs
Many SEOs lack the data science knowledge and traditional coding skills to perform these tasks.
However, you can implement these advanced techniques regardless of your technical expertise level by
understanding the core principles and leveraging the provided code examples.
With this process, you'll be able to:
• Scale your keyword research beyond manual capacity
• Identify content opportunities others miss
• Create more precisely targeted content
• Measure and improve your content strategy systematically
Read the PDF and learn how to leverage Principle Component Analysis to leverage scale Keyword Analysis using Google Search Console data and how to automate the process with Machine Learning.

Cross-Cloud Comparison and Security NotesTeri Radichel
This slide deck has a comparison of services across clouds as well as some supplemental materials such as questions you can ask about your cloud security strategy, posture, architecture, and operations.
This particular set of slides is associated with my Azure class but it is applicable to cloud security in general for AWS, Azure, and GCP.
Note that some things have changed since I wrote these slides.
AWS has multiple types of policies now for different use cases: resource cross-account sharing policies (RAM) - which I really hope expands quickly because I find it very useful, declarative policies for resource configurations, service control policies, and so on.
Microsoft keeps renaming things every five minutes. Azure AD is now Entra.
Passwordless is all the rage on Azure and although other clouds have it, I don't think it is the holy grail Microsoft thinks it is. We'll see.
Google has purchased a number of security companies that I think are pretty cool but we'll see how that all shakes out.
Cloud providers are always developing new products and services such as the advent of AI Security solutions. AWS, in particular, has had a strong focus on protecting the data you use in conjunction with AI models to ensure your data is not used by them for training or leaked.
If you find a broken link, that is a strong indication that something has changed! Make sure you consult the latest documentation.
How Race, Age and Gender Shape Attitudes Towards Mental HealthThinkNow
Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).
AI Trends in Creative Operations 2024 by Artwork Flow.pdfmarketingartwork
Creative operations teams expect increased AI use in 2024. Currently, over half of tasks are not AI-enabled, but this is expected to decrease in the coming year. ChatGPT is the most popular AI tool currently. Business leaders are more actively exploring AI benefits than individual contributors. Most respondents do not believe AI will impact workforce size in 2024. However, some inhibitions still exist around AI accuracy and lack of understanding. Creatives primarily want to use AI to save time on mundane tasks and boost productivity.

Cloud providers are always developing new products and services such as the advent of AI Security solutions. AWS, in particular, has had a strong focus on protecting the data you use in conjunction with AI models to ensure your data is not used by them for training or leaked.

Organizational culture includes values, norms, systems, symbols, language, assumptions, beliefs, and habits that influence employee behaviors and how people interpret those behaviors. It is important because culture can help or hinder a company's success. Some key aspects of Netflix's culture that help it achieve results include hiring smartly so every position has stars, focusing on attitude over just aptitude, and having a strict policy against peacocks, whiners, and jerks.

Google's Just Not That Into You: Understanding Core Updates & Search IntentLily Ray
1. Core updates from Google periodically change how its algorithms assess and rank websites and pages. This can impact rankings through shifts in user intent, site quality issues being caught up to, world events influencing queries, and overhauls to search like the E-A-T framework.
2. There are many possible user intents beyond just transactional, navigational and informational. Identifying intent shifts is important during core updates. Sites may need to optimize for new intents through different content types and sections.
3. Responding effectively to core updates requires analyzing "before and after" data to understand changes, identifying new intents or page types, and ensuring content matches appropriate intents across video, images, knowledge graphs and more.
